Palestine's Foreign Ministry summoned Romania's envoy for explanations on Wednesday to clarify statements from the ruling Social Democratic Party leader Liviu Dragnea in which he supported moving Romania's Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The United States has issued a harsh warning to Romania over plans to weaken the role of an anti-corruption agency that has sparked an angry reaction by civil society, FOCUS News Agency reported.

Romania's Defence Minister Mihai Fifor said Tuesday after the Chamber of Deputies passed a draft agreement for the purchase by Romania of Patriot missile systems that he hopes the contract with the US Administration will be signed next week, so that the deal may close on December 15.

The Romanian Defense Ministry presented for public discussion the bill for the purchase of 7 systems for PRO Patriot from the US totaling USD 3.9 billion, Romanian media reported, quoted sega. 

The first system had to be bought this year. Arms must be paid before delivery.

Romanian businessman and politician Sebastian Ghita, who has been a fugitive since December, has been arrested in Belgrade.

He carried a false Slovenian passport at the time of his arrest in the Serbian capital, Romanian media are reporting on Friday.

Romanian senators are to discuss a bill on Wednesday that would forbid the president from naming the chief prosecutors at the country's anti-graft watchdogs - a move which has caused new tensions between the ruling Social Democratic Party-Alliance of Liberals and Democrats coalition and President Klaus Iohannis.

The Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) has opposed the amendment to the Penal Code via emergency government decrees, reported Dnevnik daily.

The leadership of the Romanian Parliament (the permanent bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate) has launched an inspection on suspicions of the disappearance of EUR 2 B from the treasury of the country.

The inspection was initiated at the request of the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea (Social Democratic Party - PSD), reported Radio Romania.

The new Romanian parliament, elected on December 11, held its first sitting on Tuesday, with the Social Democratic Party, PSD and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, ALDE striking a deal to establish a coalition government.

The PSD and ALDE signed an agreement on Monday evening to come up with a joint cabinet, where portfolios are to be assigned to the two parties proportionally.

"It is with profound sorrow that I announce that the leader of the Bulgarian Union of Banat and the most prominent figure in contemporary Bulgarian life in Romania General Nikolai Mirkovic passed away on Saturday night," said Professor Plamen Pavlov from the Veliko Tarnovo University.
