An air raid on the presidential palace in Yemen's southern city of Aden and intense fighting at the airport Thursday raised fears for President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, who fled his residence.

Hadi was forced to evacuate the palace in the country's major southern city, presidency sources said, after it was attacked by a fighter jet.

Yemen parties close to a deal to end crisis: UN

Yemen's political parties are edging closer to a deal that would resolve the crisis caused by the Shiite Huthi militia seizing power, UN envoy Jamal Benomar has said.

Parties including the powerful Huthis have agreed on the "form of the legislative authority in the interim period", Benomar wrote on his Facebook page late Feb. 19.

Huthis refuse to cede Yemen power in face of 'threats'

The Shiite militia that seized power in Sanaa said on Feb. 15 it will not cave in to "threats" after Yemen's Gulf neighbours urged the UN to act forcefully against its takeover.

"The Yemeni people won't cede power in the face of threats," spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam said, quoted by the official Saba news agency, which the Shiite Huthi militia now controls.
