Hate crimes to carry stiffer sentences
The Slovenian National Assembly has passed amendments to the criminal code that bring harsher sentences for hate crimes committed based on the victim's personal circumstances such as national origin, race, sex, language or religion.

Fajon leaving European Parliament after being elected MP
Ljubljana – Social Democrats (SD) president Tanja Fajon will end her term as member of the European Parliament as she was elected an MP in the Slovenian National Assembly on Sunday. The name of the successor to her MEP seat will depend on the coalition negotiations with the election winner, the Freedom Movement.
Speaker Zorčič starting two-day official visit to Serbia
Belgrade – Parliamentary Speaker Igor Zorčič will start a two-day official visit to Serbia on Thursday to meet his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dačić. Zorčič will also be received by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, and will meet representatives of Slovenian companies in the country.
EP Democracy Group hearing on Slovenian media scheduled for next week
Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša and other Slovenian officials have been invited for a virtual exchange of views on the media in the country with the European Parliament’s Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group on 5 March.
Slovenia sending aid to Croatia after earthquake
Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša spoke with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenković on Tuesday to offer Slovenia’s assistance in the relief efforts following a devastating earthquake near Petrinja, south-east of the capital of Zagreb. Solidarity and readiness to help was also expressed by President Borut Pahor.

Joint session of Serbian and Slovenian cabinets
BELGRADE -- The governments of Serbia and Slovenia will hold a joint session in Ljubljana on Friday, the Serbian government has announced.
After the session, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will confer with Slovenian President Borut Pahor.
