Flame for Youth Olympic Festival arrives in Maribor
With less than two months to go until the opening of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Maribor, the Flame of Peace has arrived in Slovenia's second city marking the symbolic start of the biggest sporting event the city has ever seen.
Triglav Glacier mission ends with 16,000 trees
Pokljuka – A project as part of which a fraction of a glacier from Slovenia travelled to the Beijing Winter Olympics has ended as 16,000 trees have been planted in Slovenia this year to offset the CO2 emissions generated during the 13,000-kilometre journey from Mojstrana in the Julian Alps to the Chinese capital for the 2022 Olympics.

MPs pass changes to RTV Slovenija act
Ljubljana – The National Assembly passed in 53:26 vote on Thursday changes to the act on RTV Slovenija with which the government would like to reduce what it sees as the influence of politics on the public broadcaster. The changes come after RTV journalists recently went on strike twice demanding editorial autonomy.

Govt adopts bill to overhaul RTV management, oversight model
Ljubljana – The government adopted and filed to parliament on Friday a bill to reform the model of management and oversight at RTV Slovenija to reduce what is perceived as political meddling with the public broadcaster. This comes after RTV journalists recently went on strike twice demanding editorial autonomy.
Sports associations urged to boycott events in Russia, Belarus
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Olympic Committee on Saturday called on all sports associations to refrain from participating in competitions organised in Russian and Belarus, after International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach called for a boycott of competitions in the two countries.
Slovenian Olympic athletes honoured with reception
Kranjska Gora – The Slovenian Olympic Committee (OKS) has hosted a reception for Slovenian athletes who have already returned from China, including medal-winning ski jumpers Urša Bogataj and Nika Križnar, and snowboarders Gloria Kotnik and Tim Mastnak.

Triglav glacier ice reaches final destination in Beijing
Beijing – A sample of the Triglav glacier that has been shipped to Beijing in an awareness-raising campaign has reached its final destination in the Olympic Village, where it will now gradually turn to glacier water to highlight the perilous state of glaciers worldwide.
Marguč replaces Košir as Slovenia’s Olympic flag bearer
Beijing – Slovenian snowboarder Rok Marguč will replace his team-mate Žan Košir as one of Slovenia’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing on 4 February, since Košir remains in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus upon arriving in China.

Ljubljana – Slovenian Olympians were welcomed by fans in Ljubljana’s Congress Square on Tuesday evening, earning cheers and applauses after what were the most successful Summer Olympic Games for the nation, as the athletes returned home with three gold medals.
