Special Warfare Command

The Defense Ministry's decisions in favor of Greece's procurement of Switchblade-type roving ammunition (loitering munitions, or tiny drones) for the Special Warfare Command will reportedly soon head to Parliament for approval.

Greece will participate in the new EU Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM Mozambique), Kathimerini reports.

Commandos from the Special Warfare Command are expected to take critical roles in the mission, which is set to begin on September 1 and will conclude on June 30, 2026.

The high level of training of Greek marines is reflected by the 4th place won by the Greek team of the Special Warfare Command among 45 teams from 18 participating NATO member states in the international military sniper competition “EUROPEAN BEST SNIPER TEAM COMPETITION-24” (EBSC-24).

The joint American-Greek military training exercise, which had been taking place since May 20 in the wider Attica area, concluded on Thursday, the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA) announced. 

A joint training exercise by special operations forces of Greece and the US 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the wider area of Pieria in northern Greece, was wrapped up on Friday, under the coordination of the Special Warfare Command (DEP) of the Hellenic Army.

The National Security Governmental Council (KYSEA), Greece's top decision-making body for foreign affairs and defense matters, implemented substantial changes to the military leadership on Friday. These changes reflect the government's dedication to conducting a comprehensive review of the Armed Forces' operations and addressing issues from the recent past.

The Orion 23 Special Forces - Special Operations Forces Exercise, which was held in parallel with Iniochos 23, was completed on Thursday with the participation of contingents from the US, France, Cyprus, Austria, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Montenegro.
