HELSINKI (AP) — Sweden is fighting its most serious wildfires in decades — including blazes above the Arctic Circle — prompting the government to seek help from the military, hundreds of volunteers and other European nations.

Sweden on Friday called off its search for a suspected foreign submarine in the sea south of Stockholm.

Sweden called off early Oct. 24 the hunt for a suspected submarine that sparked one of the largest mobilisation of the Nordic country's naval forces since the end of the Cold War.
      

Women to assume greater role in Balkan militaries

Military officials said they are working to attract, employ and retain women more effectively.
