Syria's army said on Oct. 31 that the Nusra Front and what the army called other terrorist groups had killed 84 people, mostly women and children, in Aleppo during the past three days, in a bombardment that included chemical weapons and rocket fire. 

Turkey is bracing for a fresh influx of Syrian refugees due to recent clashes in the country, with Turkish security sources expecting some 50,000 Syrian refugees to enter the country from its southern borders. 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed on a plan to avoid "misunderstandings" in Syria amid an apparent military build-up by Moscow to support President Bashar al-Assad.

At least 13 people, among them a child, were killed in Syrian government raids on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) -held town of Al-Bab on July 13, a monitor said.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters have destroyed two ancient Muslim mausoleums in the historic Syrian city of Palmyra, the country's antiquities director said June 23.

Syria's army advanced this weekend west of the ancient city of Palmyra, reopening a key supply route for oil and gas to the capital, a newspaper and monitoring group said June 22.  

"The infantry has made tangible progress in the area of west Biyarat," said the Al-Watan daily, which is close to the government.    

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters attacked a military airport in Syria's Homs province on March 23 as they pushed on with an offensive against government strongholds towards the west, a monitoring group said.
   

Syria's army seized an area north of Aleppo on Dec. 14 and killed insurgents in battles for the strategic territory, a group monitoring the war and state media reported.
  
Syria's second city is at the heart of a fierce battle between pro-government forces and a range of insurgents, including al Qaeda's Syria wing, Islamist brigades and Western-backed rebels.
   

Syria's army said on June 15 it had recaptured the strategic town of Kassab, near the only border crossing with Turkey in Latakia province, after it fell to rebels almost three months ago.
