Thessaloniki police crack down on illegal street traders

Police in Thessaloniki seized almost 600 items from illegal street traders on Saturday.

The items included mobile phone cases, sunglasses and plastic tablecloths.

The objects were seized from traders in the city center and will be destroyed, police said.

They did not reveal if any arrests were made.

Thessaloniki police nab con artists who scammed elderly man

A couple have been arrested in Thessaloniki for allegedly tricking an elderly resident into giving them 70,000 euros.

Police said on Tuesday that the couple, a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, first came into contact with their victim in February 2012.

After befriending the elderly man, they convinced him to provide them with money, supposedly to help sick relatives.

Thessaloniki police question man over makeshift brothel


A 41-year-old man was being questioned on Tuesday by police in Thessaloniki on suspicion of turning his apartment into a makeshift brothel.

Three women, aged 31, 33 and 36, who police said were foreign nationals without determining their ethnic origin, were arrested following a raid on the apartment on Monday.

Thessaloniki police arrest man suspected in 9 rape cases

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Thessaloniki on Saturday on suspicion of nine attempted rapes in the city.

The suspect is alleged to have followed women into their apartment buildings and then assaulted them.

He is believed to have carried out the attacks between November 2013 and this month.
