The unofficial results of the parliamentary election on May 14 have revealed that the People's Alliance led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) garnered 321 lawmakers as the opposition Nation Alliance remained at 213.

Nine female candidates will race in the May 14 elections to enter the parliament from Burdur, one of the 20 provinces in Türkiye that has never had a female deputy throughout the history of the republic.

A total of 13 out of 26 political parties that submitted their parliamentary candidate lists to the Supreme Election Board (YSK) will enter May 14 elections on their own, while 13 others will run under alliances.

As four presidential candidates have been confirmed to run for the presidency, the political alliances have now intensified works to find a best formulation to increase the number of seats they will get in the parliament in the May 14 elections. The ultimate lists of potential members of parliament will need to be submitted to the Supreme Election Board (YSK) at the latest on April 9.

The Justice and Development Party (AKP) has been holding talks with some political parties that want to be part of the People's Alliance or are willing to cooperate with the ruling party for the upcoming May 14 elections.

With nearly two months to go to the polls, the political parties have started to receive applications for those who want to run for the 600-seat parliament.

The Supreme Election Board (YSK) has determined a total of 36 political parties as eligible to run in Türkiye's upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

After President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on March 10, signed a presidential decree declaring the election date as May 14, YSK convened to determine political parties that could run in the elections.

''As the People's Alliance, we will write the epic of May 14 together with those who have joined us and the friends who will join us," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on March 11 via videoconference at the AKP Provincial Heads Meeting.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his main political ally, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, had a meeting on March 8, two days before the former is set to disclose the election date.
