Some 2 million tons of waste recycled in Turkey

Turkey recycled some 2 million tons of waste, including plastics, glass and tires last year, according to data state-run Anadolu Agency compiled.

Data showed that 730 tons of waste batteries, some 178,00 tons of waste tires and 484, 000 tons of plastic were recycled in 2019.

The recycled materials also included some 234,000 tons of glass and 821,000 tons of packaging waste.

Turkish high court rejects cancelation of copper mine in Black Sea's Cerattepe

Turkey's Council of State has approved a local court decision on a major copper mine in the Black Sea province of Artvin, a project that has triggered strong reactions and protests by locals and environmentalists.

After an application by the Green Artvin Association to cancel the project, the top court ruled there was no need for the cancelation of it.

Natural assets of Turkey's Saros Gulf face destruction

The natural assets of the Saros Gulf, in the Keşan district of the northwestern province of Edirne, face destruction due to the opening of stone and limestone quarries, Doğan News Agency reported May 23.

"The trucks at the mines have been passing through our villages every day at every hour. We are inhaling dust. It sticks to our throat," said one villager, Dilber Sarı.

Turkish court belatedly halts dismantling of 'radioactive' ship

A court in ?zmir has ordered a stay of execution in the controversial dismantling of an oil refining ship that allegedly contained radioactive waste - but only after most of the vessel had already been dismantled.

The ?zmir 3rd Administrative Court released its order for a stay of execution on Oct. 16, just days before the dismantling was set to be completed.

Urban Planning Ministry issues bylaw to ensure safe cycling in urban traffic

Turkey's Environment and Urban Planning Ministry has issued a bylaw to ensure safe cycling in intra-city traffic by regulating the construction of bicycle roads and stations. 

The regulation on the design and construction of bicycle roads, stations and parking lots entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette on Nov. 3.
