Agriculture Minister Podgoršek resigns over hotel bill payment
Ljubljana – Agriculture Minister Jože Podgoršek resigned on Wednesday after he became the target of media scrutiny over lack of clarity regarding the payment of his weekend stay at an upscale hotel in Bohinj in January. He said he was “resigning exclusively due to the late payment of the bill”, and was accepting responsibility for this.
Vox populi poll: Freedom Movement leads ahead of SDS
Ljubljana – The latest Vox Populi poll by Ninamedia sees the Freedom Movement party headed by Robert Golob in leads as it is preferred by 23.9% of the respondents, followed by the ruling Democrats (SDS) with 21.2%.
Golob’s party in lead in RTV Slovenija poll
Ljubljana – Freedom Movement, the party of Robert Golob, leads the field among parliamentary and new parties in the latest poll commissioned by RTV Slovenija. The ruling Democrats (SDS) are in second.
One out of five respondents in the poll, conducted by Mediana, said they would vote for Freedom Movement, an increase of 6.8 percentage points from January.

Poll: SDS followed by Robert Golob’s party
Ljubljana – The ruling Democrats (SDS) would win 18.5% of the vote in the April general election, according a poll conducted for newspapers Dnevnik and Večer by pollster Ninamedia. The party of Robert Golob, the Freedom Movement, would come second with 16.2%, while the opposition Social Democrats (SD) would be third on 9.9%.

LMŠ announces no-confidence motions against environment, justice ministers
Ljubljana – The opposition Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ) has drafted motions of no-confidence in the environment and justice ministers, Andrej Vizjak and Marjan Dikaučič, and has already shared them with fellow opposition deputy groups. The announcement comes a day after the SocDems (SD) announced a similar motion against the education minister.
Ljubo Jasnič becomes new DeSUS head
Ljubljana – The Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) elected Ljubo Jasnič, a former secretary general of the party, the new party head at a congress in Ljubljana on Saturday. He received 54 out of 117 votes.

DeSUS electing new leadership on Saturday
Ljubljana – The Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) will hold a congress on Saturday to elect what will be its third leadership in a year and a half. Last December, after less than a year under Aleksandra Pivec, the party again elected its ex-boss Karl Erjavec, but he stepped down in March. There are three contenders now.

Justice minister resigns as govt annuls delegated prosecutor procedure
Ljubljana – Justice Minister Lilijana Kozlovič has handed her resignation, the Justice Ministry confirmed for the STA. The reason is the government’s decision to annul the procedure to appoint Slovenia’s two European delegated prosecutors and to publish a new call for applications, which Kozlovič sees no justified grounds for.
Poll: Almost two-thirds think Slovenia needs a new party
Ljubljana – Voters in Slovenia are apparently not tired of new faces and parties as more than 64% of the respondents in a public opinion poll conducted by Mediana for the newspaper Delo said the Slovenian political arena needs a new party that would fill the content gap.
Pivec returns to politics as president of new party, Our Land
Maribor – Five and a half months after resigning as the leader of the Pensioners’ Party amidst an ethics scandal, Aleksandra Pivec, a former agriculture minister, has retuned as the leader of a new party, Our Land.
After months of preparations and speculations about her return to politics, she was elected party leader at a mostly online founding congress on Saturday.
