US sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline are blatant protectionism aimed at advancing its liquefied natural gas on the European market, but the EU countries understand this and support the project, and thanks to this it will be completed, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told RBC TV.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Jan. 15 that his government was resigning to give President Vladimir Putin room to carry out the changes he wants to make to the constitution.   

A ceremony in Istanbul marked the launch of the TurkStream gas pipeline, attended by Russian and Turkish presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
