Chief Health Inspector Warns of Impending Flu Epidemic in Bulgaria

Chief Health Inspector Angel Kunchev has sounded the alarm, indicating that the flu season has commenced in Bulgaria and is poised to reach epidemic proportions within the next one to two weeks. In an interview with Nova TV on Saturday, Kunchev emphasized the dynamic nature of the situation, closely aligning with expectations for a typical winter flu surge.

Health Authorities took Samples from 92 Spots along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast

The sea water along the Bulgarian Black Sea is safe for bathing and there is currently no evidence of impending pollution. This was stated by the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev in connection with concerns about sea water pollution after the spilling of the waters from the "Nova Kakhovka" dam into the Black Sea, BNT reported.

Influenza Epidemic in Burgas from January 12 to 17 – In Two Weeks it might Cover all Regions of Bulgaria

The regional crisis headquarters in Burgas decided to declare a flu epidemic in the entire region from January 12 to 17.

The reason is the increased number of patients with acute respiratory diseases and influenza.

The measures envisaged to limit the spread are:

- Planned consultations of pregnant women and infants are suspended.

- Hospital visits are suspended.

"Bulgaria is at the beginning of a flu wave, as the H3N2 and H1N1 strains are currently predominant in our country", announced the chief state health inspector Prof. Angel Kunchev.

"At the moment, the rate of hospitalizations is normal. There is no evidence of a severe course," he assured.

According to him, climatic conditions do not lead to a flu wave.

Bulgarian Health Authorities expect a Severe Flu Wave to hit the Population

"I don't tend to make predictions about how severe the flu wave will be, but there are two reasons why experts are particularly cautious. One is the data from the Southern Hemisphere, where Australia and New Zealand have faced their worst flu epidemic since 5- 6 years. The other reason is that public immunity to influenza has declined during the pandemic."

Bulgaria: No COVID Testing in Schools this Year

This school year, such strict restrictions and preliminary examination of children with salivary tests for COVID-19 will not be imposed, the chief state health inspector Angel Kunchev announced on bTV.

Instructions are currently being prepared for both the October 2 election in the context of COVID-19 and the new school year.

COVID-19 in Bulgaria: Duration of the Isolation of Patients is Reduced from Today
