The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday that Islamic State killed at least 128 people in a Syrian town in central Homs over a three-week period before the Syrian army recaptured it on Saturday.

There was no immediate comment from Syrian government officials or state media on the report by the Observatory, a Britain-based war monitor.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has said it is concerned by the recent decision of the governor of Kirkuk to raise the flag of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) over the city of Kirkuk.

BELGRADE - Daesh terrorists have made another attempt to capture the city of Palmyra, Russia's center for Syrian reconciliation said on Sunday.

"Over 4,000 Daesh terrorists have regrouped and again tried to capture Palmyra," the center's statement said.

Russia's bombing campaign in Syria is considered an "aggression," since it targets the moderate opposition groups and civilians rather than the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), according to Gareth Bayley, the U.K.'s special representative to Syria.

France has carried out its first airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Syria. President Francois Hollande’s office has confirmed that French planes struck targets identified during reconnaissance missions conducted over the past weeks.
