Schinas says EU to help Greece tackle storm aftermath
European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas on Thursday said the European Commission is "in close contact" with the Greek authorities to support those affected and will assist with the recovery efforts that will be required after the destruction caused by storm Daniel.
Traffic mayhem as storm front reaches Athens
The passage of the Daniel storm system through the Greek capital on Wednesday caused serious traffic disruptions, turning many central thoroughfares into rivers, while several metro and train stations were forced to temporarily shut down after taking in water.

Death toll in Thessaly floods rises to three
An elderly man was found dead on Wednesday after being swept away in the area of Ellinopirgos at Karditsa, Thessaly, bringing to three the known number of fatalities caused by Storm Daniel.
The 82-year-old man was found unconscious underneath a car. He had been swept away by torrential rain and flooding after leaving his house.

Two dead, three missing as rainstorm pounds Greece for second day
At least two people died and three were missing on Wednesday after torrential rain flooded homes and businesses and destroyed infrastructure in central Greece, the fire brigade said.
Woman found dead amid severe rainstorm in Pelion
A woman was found dead near Paltsi, on the southeastern coast of Pelion in Magnisia, which was severely affected by the storm Daniel.
The 87-year-old woman had been reported missing for several hours.
She was discovered amidst a stack of wood. Eight firefighters were engaged in the operation to recover her body.

Volos nursing home evacuated after wing collapses; no injuries reported
A nursing home in Volos is being evacuated after a wing of the building collapsed as Storm Daniel continues to pound the region.
According to a board member of the nursing home, which accommodates 94 elderly residents, no one was in the affected wing when it collapsed after an adjacent river burst its banks.

Traffic banned on Skiathos due to storm
Residents on the Sporadic island of Skiathos have been urged to limit their movements after storm Daniel turned road into flooded torrents.
Shortly before 1 p.m., police decided to ban all vehicular traffic and a 112 emergency text alert was sent to all cellphones on the island.
