79% of Bulgarians do not want early elections. This shows a research by Gallup International on topical issues, which took place between November 20 and 22.

One of the topics was the resignation of Dimitar Glavchev as chairman of the National Assembly, three out of four think that he has done right by resigning.

MPs elected Emil Hristov from GERB as Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, BGNES reported.

Hristov was elected by 123 votes in favor, 7 against and 48 abstentions.

Dimitar Glavchev announced that he was resigning as speaker of Bulgaria's parliament on Friday after a meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, the leader of his party, GERB.

MPs chose Tsveta Karayancheva as parliament speaker.

She took the post after Dimitar Glavchev resigned, after a scandal with the opposition reported NOVA TV. 

She became the second woman speaker of the National Assembly after Tsetska Tsacheva.

"I have just put my resignation in the registry office of the National Assembly," said Glavchev from the Parliamentary Tribune.

This decision came after a half-hour meeting of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in Glavchev's Cabinet together with the leadership of the GERB parliamentary group.
