The government has put forward an amendment to the Constitution designed to ease the workload of the Constitutional Court by giving it some discretion with regard to which cases it decides to hear, a change that the court has been demanding for years.

Construction of new Ljubljana prison set to begin this month
Koper – The construction of a new prison for Ljubljana, which will be located on the outskirts of the city in Dobrunje, will start this month, Justice Minister Dominika Švarc Pipan announced on Friday. The contract has been signed and the works are scheduled to be completed in 2025.
Govt clears 13 prosecutor appointments
Ljubljana – The government on Thursday signed off the appointments of 13 state prosecutors that had been stalled under the Janez Janša government. The move had been announced by Dominika Švarc Pipan in her presentation in parliament before her confirmation as justice minister on Wednesday.

Fajon leaving European Parliament after being elected MP
Ljubljana – Social Democrats (SD) president Tanja Fajon will end her term as member of the European Parliament as she was elected an MP in the Slovenian National Assembly on Sunday. The name of the successor to her MEP seat will depend on the coalition negotiations with the election winner, the Freedom Movement.
