Magnitude 5.0 earthquake strikes near Trikala, landslides reported
A 5.0-magnitude tremor struck 31 kilometers southwest of the city of Trikala in central Greece on Friday morning, causing landslides on rural roads, according to state-run news agency ANA-MPA. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The earthquake hit shortly after 10 a.m. at a depth of 1.8 kilometers, according to a preliminary reading of the Athens Institute of Geodynamics.
Lesvos quakes not linked to the North Anatolian Fault
Seismologists said on Monday there was no cause for concern on Lesvos after two quakes hit the eastern Aegean island.
Seismologist Efthimios Lekkas told the Athens News Agency, however, that it will likely be 48 hours before the seismic activity ends completely.
Aftershocks rattle Halkidiki after strong 5-Richter quake
A strong undersea quake, measuring 5 on the Richter scale, sgtruck off the coast of Cassandra in Halkidiki, northern Greece, shortly before 7.30 a.m. on Friday but there were no reports of any serious damage or injuries.
