Iraqi Yazidi lawmaker undergoes surgery in Istanbul after surviving helicopter crash

Iraqi Yazidi lawmaker Feyyan Dahil, who was brought to Turkey after being injured in a helicopter crash while carrying aid to displaced members of her community in northern Iraq, underwent surgery in an Istanbul hospital on Aug. 13.

Doctors have said Dahil had a broken leg and two broken ribs but her condition was not life-threatening. She will undergo second surgery on Aug. 14.

Yazidis fleeing Islamic State settled in homes in southeastern Turkey

Yazidis fleeing Iraq following an offensive by Islamic State (IS) militants have been settled in homes in the southeastern province of Şırnak, Culture Minister Ömer Çelik has said on Aug. 7.

Tens of thousands of Yazidi families, as well as Turkmens living in Iraq’s Sinjar district bordering Syria are desperately trying to escape the militants amid reports of massacres.

A Yazidi lawmaker has pleaded in tears at the Iraqi Parliament for help, as reports of massacres spread after militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attacked the district Sinjar near the Syrian border. Feyyan Dahil, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), said at least 500 people had been killed and 500 women were abducted as concubines.
