Commemorating the centenary of Maria Callas' birth, in conjunction with Frank Castorf's production, the Epidaurus (aefestival.gr) exhibition hall is set to reopen after a 22-year hiatus, thanks to the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Is a logo a threat to an ancient theater?
A cynic would say that it's just another of the many online arguments that kick off every so often: The logos of Levi's, McDonalds, Apple, Marlboro and other American corporate giants that make up part of the set in the Greek National Opera's production of "Madama Butterfly" which is currently on at the Herod Atticus Theater have sparked outrage on social media.

‘Medea’ through Castorf’s perspective
The five lead actresses in this year's "Medea" performance directed by Frank Castorf at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus as part of the Athens Festival: (l-r) Evdokia Roumelioti, Maria Nafpliotou, Sofia Kokkali, Angeliki Papoulia and Stefania Goulioti. The play staged by the German director based on Euripides' "Medea" is expected to be one of the top artistic events of the year in Greece.

Frank Castorf | Athens | June 19 & 20
The Greek Festival pays tribute to the Volksbuehne with a series of performances by directors with the historic German theater company. On Monday and Tuesday, June 19 and 20, the Pireos 260 venue will host outgoing Volksbuehne director Frank Castorf and his production of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "The Gambler." The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets cost 30-40 euros.

Stage designer Aleksandar Denic receives Der Faust award
BELGRADE - Famous Serbian artist Aleksandar Denic has received the German theatre award Der Faust for stage design in Ring of the Nibelungs directed by Frank Castorf.
Famous German actor Ulrich Mates presented the award, Denic told Tanjug.
The Der Faust award is given out by the Academy of Performance Arts, the Deutsche Buehnenverein and the provincial foundation for culture.
