A new public domain era for Tintin, Popeye and others begins

Popeye can punch without permission and Tintin can roam freely starting in 2025. The two classic comic characters who first appeared in 1929 are among the intellectual properties becoming public domain in the United States on Jan. 1. That means they can be used and repurposed without permission or payment to copyright holders.

In the context of the "Jazz at the Museum" series of monthly music events, the B&E Goulandris Foundation will be hosting the Pantelis Benetatos Trio on Valentine's Day in a tribute concert celebrating love and featuring the music of notable composers George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Jazz pianist Benetatos has collaborated with jazz personalities including Bobby Watson and Chuck Berry.

The Athens State Orchestra returns for a third year to the Stavros Niarchos Park's Great Lawn on Sunday, September 15, for a "Journey to the New World." Joined by accordion and bandoneon virtuoso Klaudiusz Baran, the historic Greek ensemble, conducted by Giorgos Vranos, will perform works by three iconic composers from the Americas: Argentinean tango master Astor Piazzolla and two North America
