Trumpet player Andreas Polyzogopoulos, alongside his talented collaborators George Kontrafouris and Kostas Konstantinou, is set to commemorate the most romantic day of the year at the Half Note Jazz Club (17 Trivonianou, Mets). The trio will pay homage to the legendary jazz figure, Chet Baker, known for his sensitive and cool sounds.

The Half Note jazz club in downtown Athens presents the Sofia Noiti Quintet and its "From Rebetiko to Jazz" project drawing from the two genres that have shaped Noiti's approach to music. The set comprises pieces from Noiti's album "Agios Chronos," and the unreleased "Mystic Blues," both recorded in collaboration with jazz pianist George Kontrafouris.

"Broadway Lights," a project in which the Nikos Chatzisakos Quartet puts a contemporary jazz spin on cinema and Broadway classics of the 1940s, 50s and 60s, will be on stage at the Afrikana jazz club in the downtown Athenian neighborhood of Gazi on Wednesday, January 15.

Acclaimed Greek jazz act George Kontrafouris takes the stage at the Half Note on Wednesday, January 8, with two up-and-coming New York-based musicians, Kimon Karoutzos on bass and Jason Wastor on drums. The trio will perform tracks from Kontrafouris' most recent album, "The Passing," and older work. Doors open at 8.30 p.m.

Acclaimed Greek jazz pianist George Kontrafouris celebrates the 10th anniversary of his Baby Trio band with a concert at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) on Sunday, September 2. Since it was formed in 2008, Baby Trio has gone through several incarnations and a parade of different members.

Running through Saturday, June 9, the Greek Jazz Panorama at the Onassis Cultural Center is dedicated to the new generation, featuring ensembles whose bandleaders are aged under 30 years old.

You could be forgiven for thinking that a typical night out in Athens involves, more or less, a dive into the delectable local cuisine, copious wine consumption, and impromptu merriment. This, after all, has been part of the benign stereotype for a while, one that is periodically rekindled as is the case with every cultural stereotype on this planet.

The Onassis Cultural Center in Athens, known as Stegi, is hosting its 6th Greek Jazz Panorama on December 2, 3 and 4. Taking part in the three-day event are local and foreign artists including pianists George Kontrafouris, Nikos Anadolis, Aki Rissanen and Spyros Manesis, bassist Joao Hasselberg and percussionist Kaspars Kurdeko. Performances start at 9 p.m.
