Winter Weather Forecast In Bulgaria: Predictions For Icy Days And Snow

Renowned climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev has forecasted wintry weather starting this Monday, promising a typical January chill across Bulgaria. Speaking on bTV, Prof. Rachev highlighted the anticipation of icy conditions from Tuesday through Thursday, affecting various regions across the country.

Bulgaria: No Snow on Christmas

"On Thursday and Friday it will rain, there will be over 700-800 meters of snow. Christmas will be snowless, I don't see any precipitation until December 25 in the whole country", said Prof. Georgi Rachev on bTV.

The weather in the Balkans is warmer than in Spain, he added. However, there will be snow for the skiers.

Weather in Bulgaria: We will Hardly See any Sun in Sofia

The shortest days of the year are set and due to cloudy weather in Sofia we will hardly see the sun, predicts the climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev in his column in the morning block of bTV.

The weather in recent days is typical for December. In the east, however, temperatures are about 4 degrees higher than normal - in Burgas they enjoy early autumn, he said.

Monday will be the last warmer day. A serious cold snap of at least 5-7 degrees is expected from Tuesday, then the first snow will fall, the climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev announced in the morning block of bTV.

The snow cover will not be thick and durable. In Northern Bulgaria it will be only 2-4 centimeters, and in the southern part of the country - rain mixed with snow.

The Warm Weather Postponed the Flu by a Month

This autumn the temperatures in Sofia won't fall below 0. This happens once every 20 years, climate scientist Prof. Georgi Rachev told BNT.

"September, October, November were not only warmer but also the temperatures won't fall below 0," adding that: "We postponed the flu by one month because of the warm and dry weather."
