The Greek capital is hosting just under one-third of some 60,000 refugees and migrants who should be more fairly distributed around other parts of the country, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis said on Wednesday.

Huge debt pile discovered at Athens Nursing Home

Athens mayor urges Toskas to step down, minister fires back
Angered by the recent spate of violence in the Greek capital, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis called for the resignation of Citizens' Protection Minister Nikos Toskas for the second time in a week Thursday.
"How many dumpsters, how many trolley buses, how many kiosks need to be torched and how many statues destroyed before a minister has the decency to resign?" Kaminis told Skai TV.
Row between Athens mayor and minister intensifies
A row between Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis and Citizens' Protection Minister Nikos Toskas intensified on Thursday, after the former reiterated his demand for the latter's resignation.
Speaking on Skai TV, Kaminis repeated a call from earlier in the week for Toskas to step down over his failure to crack down on a spate of attacks against public transport and infrastructure in Athens.

Conspicuous absence
Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis has every right to be angry at the leadership of the Citizens' Protection Ministry.
The area around the historic Athens Polytechnic building and most of the Exarchia district have been allowed to become a base for anyone bent on destroying public property, threatening people's lives and violent activities.

Athens mayor says citizens' protection minister must step down
Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis on Tuesday said that the Greek capital is experiencing a "security vacuum" and called for the resignation of Citizens' Protection Minister Nikos Toskas.
Kaminis made his comments after a meeting with PASOK chief Fofi Gennimata, saying that he is "puzzled" by the ministry's inaction in response to spate of attacks on public infrastructure.
Athens mayor inaugurates 'social laundry'
Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis is seen Tuesday during the inauguration of a free public laundry service at the Homeless Shelter of the City of Athens (KYADA), near the capital's Larissis Station. The facility, which includes five professional washing machines and five dryers, will be available to individuals with no access to basic services such as electricity or water.
