GERB leader Boyko Borissov announced on the sidelines of the National Assembly that he would waive his immunity. It was requested by the former chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev because of the "Barcelonagate" investigation. So far, Borissov has refused to do so. Including on Wednesday morning (July 5), when the chairman of GERB said that "I will not give it to Geshev's classmates".

The former chief prosecutor of Bulgaria, Ivan Geshev, announced that he is creating a civil patriotic and conservative movement called: "Justice for Bulgaria".

In a special video message, he announced that after his resignation as a regular prosecutor is finally accepted, he will "stand together with the people in the name of preserving the Bulgarian national identity".

The co-chairman of "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" Kiril Petkov is now without parliamentary immunity.

Iliana Ivanova, a member of the European Court of Auditors, is GERB's nominee for European Commissioner, said party leader Boyko Borissov.

In December 2021 a petition was filed by Dr. Jonathan Levy, a UK lawyer representing OneCoin victims, with the Bulgarian Constitutional Ombudsman alleging Bulgarian Chief Prosecutor Geshev was protecting the OneCoin organized crime group founded by fugitive billionaire Ruja Ignatova. The Bulgarian Ministry of Justice has since requested repeatedly that Geshev open an investigation.

President Rumen Radev commented after the opening of the three-day "Green Week 2023" forum on the election of Borislav Sarafov as acting chief prosecutor in place of the removed Ivan Geshev.

According to President Rumen Radev, the quick election of Sarafov raises doubts that the parliamentary parties "are looking to appoint their own guy".

With an address to the Bulgarian people on YouTube, the former chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev hinted at a possible political career. Announcing his resignation as prosecutor, he promised citizens "to continue the fight for truth and justice."

Ivan Geshev has submitted a request to be reinstated to the position of "Prosecutor in the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office", reports the Supreme Judicial Council.

This happens just a day after President Rumen Radev signed a decree releasing Ivan Geshev from the post of chief prosecutor.

The co-chairman of "We Continue the Change" Kiril Petkov renounces his parliamentary immunity. He announced this himself on Facebook, specifying that the replacement of Ivan Geshev with Borislav Sarafov is an imitation of judicial reform.

The head of the national investigation, Borislav Sarafov, was elected acting chief prosecutor. This happened at an extraordinary meeting of the prosecutor's collegium. They supported the proposal for Sarafov with 8 votes "in favor", one "against".
