Türkiye has emerged as one of the top five countries to demonstrate significant improvements in the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement's (IEA) Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2023 results.

The Education Ministry has announced plans to introduce open-ended questions in nationwide joint exams, marking a departure from the traditional multiple-choice format.

The move aims to offer more comprehensive insights into student learning and ensure consistency across schools, according to Kemal Bülbül, the ministry's director overseeing exams.

Security forces detained at least 19 suspects, including the deputy mayor of Istanbul's Şişli district over their alleged links to the PKK/KCK terror group, sources have said.

As part of an investigation, earlier detention warrants were issued for a total of 25 suspects.
