Biden Nominates a New Ambassador to Bulgaria

US President Joe Biden has nominated Kenneth Merten as new US ambassador to Bulgaria. This is stated in a statement by the White House.

Merten (b. 1961) is a career diplomat. Until recently, he was a Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Haiti. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Global Talent Management.

Against a background of American disapproval, a major Russia-Croatia economic forum and investment conference started in the Russian capital on Tuesday, gathering 200 Russian and 100 Croatian companies.

The conference opened a day after the EU on Monday broadened sanctions on Russia to include an additional 19 Russians and Ukrainians and nine more Russian companies.
