Scott: Serbia-Russia ties no problem, commitment to EU a must

BELGRADE - US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Hoyt Brian Yee has had an open and positive conversation with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, US Ambassador to Belgrade Kyle Scott said Wednesday, adding Yee had said Serbia should have good relations with Russia but also be a "hundred percent" committed to its goal of EU accession.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and US Ambassador to Belgrade Kyle Scott on Wednesday highlighted a need for continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and implementation of agreements reached, including agreements on the judiciary and establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

US received assurances Serbia won't send deminers to Syria

The US supports Serbia on demining, and Serbia's needs come first, says a representative of the US embassy in Belgrade.

However, press officer Eric Heyden told Blic, the US has received assurances from the Serbian Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the Serbian Army (VS) General Staff that Serbian deminers would not be sent to Syria.

President receives US ambassador

President Aleksandar Vucic received on Wednesday US Ambassador to Belgrade Kyle Scott, with whom he discussed "bilateral relations and regional issues."

According to a statement from the presidency, they "voiced the commitment of Serbia and the United States to take advantage of numerous opportunities to increase cooperation in different areas."

US Ambassador Accused of Meddling in Serbia's Affairs

Pro-government media outlets have accused US ambassador Kyle Scott of interfering in Serbia's affairs after the diplomat criticised Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin for praising convicted war criminals.

The daily Vecernje novosti on Friday accused Scott of wanting to control the Serbian government.
