The sad situation of the media
Turkish journalism is passing through a very difficult period, but I don't really recall when it wasn't in a difficult situation. However, the current period is particularly difficult. The atmosphere of fear, intimidation and abeyance to the absolute authority has reached such a dimension that journalists, unfortunately, might steer clear of discussions where problems are discussed.

Head of Turkish bars union describes attack on columnist as 'fascism'
Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) head Metin Feyzio?lu has condemned the physical assault on Hürriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan, describing the attack as ?fascism.?
?If we ignore this attack and keep quiet, even our houses will turn into dark prisons,? Feyzio?lu said in a written statement on Oct. 1.
Turkey's Bar Association to march to An?tkabir to mark start of legal year
As the new legal year started with ceremonies held at courts across the country on Sept. 1, the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) announced that it would mark the occasion by marching to Atatürk?s mausoleum in Ankara on Sept. 5, ?hand in hand with the citizens? to stress the ?need for the rule of law and to stand against terror.?
Another 'despotic state' practice in an Anatolian court
A lawyer from the Central Anatolian province of Afyon, Umut K?l?ç, took the judges? exam and was jailed.
K?l?ç received 85 points on the written exam, which is the first phase of the qualification, but he was not able to pass the interview. This was his second try on the oral exam.
Turkish lawyers to file complaint against body searches at courthouse
The Union of Bar Associations of Turkey (TBB) will file a legal complaint against all security guards who conduct body searches of lawyers at courthouse entrances, TBB President Metin Feyzio?lu has stated.
'Gezi doctors' win case against Health Ministry
An Ankara court has rejected a lawsuit filed by the Health Ministry against the Turkish Medical Association's (TTB) Ankara Chamber of Doctors (ATO) for assisting injured protesters during the Gezi Park protests in 2013.
