Baltimore Issues State of Emergency Following Civil Unrest

The city of Baltimore in the US state of Maryland has issued a state of emergency on account of the riots taking place.

Upon the Monday night protests a number of private and business properties have been looted, police cars set on fire and several police officers have suffered severe injuries, as reported by the BBC.

Los Angeles Police Shot Homeless Man

Los Angeles police officers shot and killed a homeless man during an altercation at a homeless camp on Sunday.

A video captured the violent struggle between the man and several police officers in the city's Skid Row area, which ended with the former's murder.

According to police, three officers opened fire after the man tried to grab a gun from an officer, the BBC reports.

NATO's priority in 2015: Setting up reaction force in Europe

Leaving combat operations in Afghanistan behind, NATO is shifting its focus to Europe in 2015 and the creation of its new ultra-rapid-reaction force, designed as a deterrent to Russia.
     
The priority for the 28-member alliance will be to get the new agile expeditionary force into operation, but also settling the question of who will pay for it, analysts say.
