Former Prime Minister, Social Democrat Zoran Milanovic was elected President in a runoff election on January 5, beating the incumbent conservative Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic with 52.7 percent to 47.3 percent of votes.
Constitutional Court President Miroslav Separovic said on that occasion that it was paramount for the court to stick to what he had sworn to do.

Centre-left former Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic was sworn in as president of Croatia on Tuesday, six weeks after he defeated incumbent conservative Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in a run-off election.

The Croatian Constitutional Court on Friday published a ruling made at the end of January that obliges courts and relevant authorities to give all competent appliers to foster equal opportunities, including same-sex couples.

That applies to couples "living in the informal and informal life partnerships," it said, referencing the legal term for same-sex marriage in Croatia.

The president of Croatian Constitutional Court, Miroslav Separovic, announced on Friday that the court had decided that the use of the Serbian language and Cyrillic script for official purposes in the Croatian town of Vukovar should be extended.
