UN says 75,000 children in Nigeria risk dying in 'months'

The United Nations warned Nov. 15 that 75,000 Nigerian children risk dying in "a few months" as hunger grips the country's ravaged northeast in the wake of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Boko Haram jihadists have laid waste to the impoverished region since taking up arms against the government in 2009, displacing millions and disrupting farming and trade.  

British PM Cameron calls Nigeria and Afghanistan ‘fantastically corrupt’

Prime Minister David Cameron has been overheard describing Nigeria and Afghanistan as “fantastically corrupt” in a conversation with the Queen.

In comments that were caught by a microphone during a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, he said Nigeria and Afghanistan were two of the most corrupt countries in the world, as the Guardian reports.

Turkey ready to help Nigeria fight terrorism: Erdo?an

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said Turkey is ready to help Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.

Addressing a joint press conference alongside his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in the Nigerian capital Abuja on March 2, Erdo?an said Turkey will help Nigeria bring peace in the region.        

Bomb blasts rock restive Nigerian city of Maiduguri: Army

Three bomb blasts on Sept.20 rocked the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, the stronghold of Boko Haram Islamists, the army said, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

"There were three improvised explosive devices explosions at Gomari and Ajilari general area in Maiduguri at about 7:21 pm (1821 GMT)," military spokesman Sani Usman said in a statement.
