Presidential election in Turkish Cyprus to be held on April 26
The presidential election in Turkish Cyprus will be held on April 26, 2020.
The election bans will start on March 1, according to the statement made by Turkish Cyprus Supreme Election Board (YSK).
Four politicians announced the presidential candidacy.
Turkish Cypriot leader calls for dialogue in eastern Mediterranean
Turkish Cypriot leader on Jan. 21 said diplomatic methods should be used extensively in a bid to counter growing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Mustafa Akıncı's remarks came at the International Science Diplomacy Forum held in the capital Lefkoşa where he commented on the discovery of natural gas in the region and diplomatic ties with neighbors.

Turkish Cypriot premier to run for 2020 presidency
Ersin Tatar, the prime minister of Turkish Cyprus announced on Jan. 18 that he will run for presidential race that will take place in April 2020.
He announced his candidacy after the party assembly meeting of the National Unity Party (UBP), of which he is the leader.

Turkish Cypriot leader meets UN special representative
Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akıncı received the UN special representative at the capital Lefkoşa on Jan. 10.
The meeting with Elizabeth Spehar took place at the presidential palace.
Top diplomat to run for 2020 Turkish Cypriot presidency
Kudret Özersay, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the Turkish Cyprus, announced on Jan. 9 that he will run for 2020 presidential race.
Özersay said on Facebook that he will run as an independent candidate for the elections slated for April.
Greece, Israel, Greek Cyprus sign EastMed project
Greece, Israel and Greek Cyprus on Jan. 2 signed an Eastern Mediterranean (EastMed) pipeline project, planned to run from Israel to Greek Cyprus, Crete, Greece, and ultimately to Italy, local Greek media reported.
The deal was signed in Athens by the energy ministers of Greece, Israel, and Greek Cyprus, according to the Greek daily Kathimerini.

Akinci says EastMed energy project costly, not conducive to Cyprus settlement
Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on Thursday criticized the signing of an undersea pipeline by the leaders of Greece, Cyprus and Israel claiming that it makes no economic sense and it would not help to solve the island dispute.
The 1,900-kilometer EastMed pipeline is longer and costlier than other alternatives, Akinci said in a written statement.
