Remembering Agatha Christie at 'Black Week Turkey' events in Istanbul

One of the world?s oldest luxury hotels, the Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah in Istanbul, will host the ?Black Week Turkey? event on Oct. 22-24 in honor of Agatha Christie?s 125th birthday with the attendance of the famous author?s grandson and a number of leading crime fiction authors. 

Renk wins Gazi Derby

Jockey Ahmet Çelik rode thoroughbred Renk to victory on June 28 at the Gazi Derby, Turkey's most prestigious horse race.

Twenty-one Turkish three-year-old thoroughbreds competed in the derby for the 1.35 million Turkish Lira prize on the 2,400-meter grass track.

Thoroughbreds in line for Turkey's Gazi Derby

Turkey?s most prestigious horse race, the Gazi Derby, will run for its 89th time on June 28 at the Veliefendi Hippodrome in Istanbul.

Twenty-two Turkish three-year-old thoroughbreds will be competing for the 1.35 million Turkish Lira prize at 5:15 p.m. at the 2,400-meter grass track. The pride of owning a Gazi winning horse is invaluable.

District education officer sparks anger by displaying Atatürk in hell for impiety

An education official in the northwestern province of Bursa caused public indignation after his account was used to tweet a picture depicting Turkey?s founding father in hell for failing to comply with religious principles. 

Mustafa Karaaslan purportedly shared a picture of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk captioned with a fabricated quotation with the leader?s signature below. 

Historical carpet lost at museum

An 89-year-old carpet, which was gifted to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during his trip to the western province of U?ak, was lost at the newly restored Atatürk Museum.

The museum underwent restoration in 2013 and reopened last month. One of six historical cotton U?ak carpets, the 12-meter-squared carpet was lost during the restoration work.
