AEK has risen to the top of the Super League table with its victory at the Athens derby over Panathinaikos on Sunday, after PAOK lost the Thessaloniki derby to visiting Aris.

AEK was the better team at Nea Filadelfia and deservedly won 2-0 in the first major derby of the capital this season.

Olympiakos beat PAOK that has dropped to third in the Super League, while AEK and Panathinaikos scored road wins of varying difficulty on Sunday. Meanwhile PAS Giannina has been mathematically relegated.

PAOK returned from 2-0 down to snatch a precious point at AEK and stay at the top of the Super League table, while Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are increasingly back into the game for the title.

AEK drew 2-2 with PAOK in the fourth round of the Super League playoffs on Sunday in a most entertaining top-of-the-table clash at the OPAP Arena in Athens.

PAOK finished first after the regular season of the Super League, and ahead of the playoffs it will have a point's advantage over AEK that conceded a late equalizer at Aris on Sunday.

Olympiakos is the only team in the Super League to have three wins in as many rounds of games, after downing visiting Lamia on Sunday, while AEK and Panathinaikos bounced back from their Champions League elimination to score road wins.

The Athens derby between AEK and Panathinaikos, at the start of the round-robin playoffs on Sunday, ended in a stalemate, a result that probably benefits leader Panathinaikos as well as fellow challengers Olympiakos and PAOK, that scored away wins on Sunday.

AEK has gone top of the Super League table for the first time this season, as hitherto leader Panathinaikos lost 1-0 at Asteras Tripolis on Monday.

Super League leader Panathinaikos narrowly maintained its four-point advantage at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory at PAS Giannina on Sunday.
