Hollande’s visit to Greece comes attached with high hopes

From a visit to a shrinking Icelandic glacier on Friday, French Presidnet Francois Hollande is arriving in Greece at 4.50 p.m. on Thursday afternoon to tend to the diminishing Greek GDP. Government hopes are pinned on his two-day visit during which he is expected to vouch for the country and express his support for the reform drive as well as show interest in Greek investments.

New Greek government announced

The new Greek government was announced by SYRIZA MP and new government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili. The new government is expected to be sworn in Wednesday at 10.30 am (Greek time):

Prime Minister: Alexis Tsipras

Government Vice-President: Yiannis Dragasakis

Minister of State: Nikos Pappas

There was enthusiasm at SYRIZA’s headquarters on Koumoundourou street from the first exit polls that put the party ahead of its main rival, the conservative New Democracy party. As the night progressed with votes tallied in the party’s favor, reserved joy gave way to smiles and cheers… and the flow of whiskey.

SYRIZA spokesperson Olga Gerovasili talked at Parapolitika radio station and stated “We will cooperate with anyone who believes that memorandum is catastrophic. The neoliberal approach imposed through it, the wrong recipe provided to the country was disastrous not only judging by the results but from the moment the memorandum was imposed as policy”.
