Palme d'Or

French film legend Alain Delon, a divisive star known to some as a sex symbol and to others an egotistical chauvinist, has died at the age of 88, his children announced Sunday in a statement.

Meryl Streep will receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, organizers said on May 2.

Streep, 74, is one of the most feted actors in Hollywood history, with a record 21 Oscar nominations and three wins.

A record six women directors will compete for the Palme d'Or at Cannes in May, organizers announced on April 13, with the film festival promising a who's who of Hollywood A-listers and award-winning filmmakers.
