The detention of the head of the Appeals Court, Sali Mekaj, earlier this week is one the most high-profile arrests ever made involving a member of the Kosovo judiciary, with analysts calling it a "blow" to the legal system.

The Kosovo police have arrested the president of the Court of Appeals, Sali Mekaj, the media in Pristina reported on Tuesday.

The media said that Mekaj was "caught red handed" in the town of Pec as he was negotiating the release of a person arrested for drug possession.
