Opposition HDP co-chair Demirtaş to appear in court 10 months after being arrested

Selahattin Demirtaş, the co-chair of the Kurdish issue-focused Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), will appear in court for the first hearing in his case on Sept. 6, 10 months after his arrest. 

Demirtaş was arrested on Nov. 4, 2016 as part of an investigation launched by the chief public prosecutor's office in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

A deputy from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) was arrested on charges of "being a member of a terrorist organizations" on April 19 in the eastern Anatolian province of Muş, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Burcu Çelik Özkan, a HDP deputy for the province, was detained by police during a routine traffic stop on April 19.

The Diyarbakır Eighth Heavy Penal Court ruled for Demirtaş to remain in jail, where he is held on several charges including "managing a terrorist organization."
