Health ministry announces 46 new Covid-19 cases, fast-track hiring of hundreds of doctors, nurses

Some 46 new coronavirus infections, raising Greece's confirmed cases total to 464, were announced on this evening at the daily briefing by infectious diseases professor Sotiris Tsiodras.

Of these infections, 72 are of undetermined origin.

Coronavirus cases rise to 418 with 31 new infections, Health Ministry says

Greece's Health Ministry representative Sotiris Tsiodras on Wednesday announced 31 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to 418, with the death toll remaining at five. 

Of those infected, 79 are being treated in hospital while 13 are in critical condition, Tsiodras said. 

The average age of those infected stands at around 70 years, the ministry representative added. 

Government in race against time to secure ICU beds

As the number of confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus climbed to 352 on Monday, with another 21 reported, the government announced a new raft of measures including the demand that people arriving in Greece from abroad self-isolate for 14 days.

In addition, all shops are to close as of Wednesday with the exception of supermarkets, pharmacies and gas stations.

Coronavirus cases rise to 387 as fifth death reported

Greek Health Ministry spokesman Sotiris Tsiodras on Tuesday announced 35 new coronavirus infections, bringing total to 387, adding that one more patient has died, pushing the death toll to five. 

Tsiodras added that 14 people who had been treated after contracting the virus have been released. 

The average age of the victims is 68 years old, Tsiodras added.
