Dozens of firefighters were battling on Saturday to stop a wildfire from spreading to a nature reserve in a mountainous forest area on the outskirts of the Greek capital, the fire service said.

According to the fire department, there are currently multiple fire fronts in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece, with several villages receiving messages from 112 to evacuate on Friday.

A fire broke out on Monday at the PYRKAL factory in the Panakto area of Viotia, central Greece.

The fire started near a storage facility with hazardous materials.

Some 32 firefighters with 11 vehicles were dispatched to the scene. Moreover, one aircraft and two helicopters are contributing to the firefighting efforts.
