Tanin: Only UN SC can abolish UNMIK
PRISTINA - Only the UN Security Council can make decisions about the mandate of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), UNMIK head Zahir Tanin has said following media reports about a request by the Kosovo foreign ministry to close the mission.
Tanin said this at Wednesday's closed-door meeting with the foreign affairs committee of the Kosovo assembly, Kosova Sot reported.

Pristina wants UNMIK in Kosovo shut down

The Kosovo government is demanding from the international community to change the mandate of UNMIK, UN's mission in Kosovo.
Pristina wants UNMIK to be given the role of a political mission, "so that Kosovo can start negotiations to join the UN."

NEW YORK - Maintaining peace and stability is Serbia's primary goal, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic told the UN SC Monday, urging the international community to influence the provisional institutions in Pristina to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities pursuant to the Brussels Agreement, and noting Serbia would never recognise Kosovo.
Dacic, Tanin discuss UNMIK activities
BELGRADE - Serbian First Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic on Friday received Zahir Tanin, the UN secretary general's special representative and head of the UN Misson in Kosovo (UNMIK), to discuss the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija and UNMIK activities, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
