Sniffer dog ‘Volta’ retires after 10 years of service
A sniffer dog named Volta has retired after serving for ten years in the gendarmerie forces in the western province of Manisa.
The Pointer breed dog's carrier in the gendarmerie forces began in 2011.
Volta assisted the local anti-smuggling and organized crime squad in the province of Manisa in 2016.
80 schools in east shut down due to damage: Minister
Eighty schools in the country's east damaged during an earthquake on Jan. 25 have been closed and the buildings will be demolished, Turkish Education Minister Ziya Selçuk has said.
"All schools in the earthquake-region were controlled and the decision to demolish 80 of them has been taken," Selçuk said on Feb. 2 in an interview with Kanal 7.
Two earthquakes strike western, central Turkey
A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey's western Manisa province on Jan. 22, according to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
Ahmet Deniz, the governor of the province, said there are reports that some buildings were damaged but no casualties have been reported so far.
Only four people were reportedly injured.
