More than 38,250 irregular migrants held in Istanbul since start of 2021

More than 38,250 irregular migrants held in the Turkish metropolis Istanbul as of Jan. 1 have been handed to the local migration office, authorities said on Aug. 17.

The Istanbul Governor's Office said in a statement that 453 irregular migrants, including 159 Afghans, were held in Istanbul on Monday.

Number of low-risk provinces rising as jab drive speeds up

 

The COVID-19 vaccination rate has reached 75 percent of the population over the age of 18 in nearly 30 out of all 81 provinces in Turkey, increasing the number of low-risk provinces.

According to a risk map uploaded by the country's health minister on Twitter, 28 provinces were blue, indicating that they are at low risk in terms of the pandemic.

Long-running forest fire in Turkish resort finally extinguished

The blazes in the Mediterranean province of Muğla's Köyceğiz district have been contained after burning for 14 days and cooling efforts were underway, the country's agriculture and forestry minister said.

"We managed to bring Köyceğiz fire under control with the great efforts of heroes of forests," Pakdemirli tweeted, referring to firefighters.

All but three forest fires in Turkey under control

Turkey has gotten under control all the forest fires in the country, except for two blazes in the southwest, said the agriculture and forestry minister on Aug. 9.

"In 53 provinces, we have dealt with 270 forest fires, with 268 now under control," Bekir Pakdemirli told a press conference in Marmaris, Muğla after a firefighting coordination meeting.
