Turkey bids farewell to veteran actress Fatma Girik
Veteran actress Fatma Girik, who died on Jan. 24 at a hospital where she was being treated, was laid to rest following commemoration ceremonies held in Istanbul yesterday.
The funeral which was planned to take place on Jan. 25 had been postponed due to heavy snowfall and blizzards that crippled life in Turkey's northwest.
At least 90 migrants rescued in Aegean Sea
A total of 90 migrants have been rescued by Turkish authorities in the Aegean Sea, according to a statement.
Turkey's Coast Guard Command said yesterday that it rescued a total of 90 migrants off Muğla and Balıkesir provinces.
The statement noted that 20 of the migrants were rescued off Bodrum district in Muğla, while 25 were helped off the coast of Marmaris district.

Ancient statue heads found in Knidos
The excavations in the ancient city of Knidos, located in the Datça district of the southwestern province of Muğla, have unearthed five marble statue heads, one of which is female. The findings, approximately 2,000-years-old, date back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Aegean tourism hotspots flooded by heavy rains
Heavy precipitation caused flooding in the Bodrum, Milas and Marmaris districts of the southwestern province of Muğla late on Dec. 4.
Bodrum suffered the most damage, with streams brimming over and rocks falling from hills blocking some of the main roads. Many houses and offices on the ground floor flooded.

Cleaning of areas burned by wildfires in Muğla continues
The cleaning process in areas in the southwestern province of Muğla's Bodrum and Milas districts, burned by wildfires that raged many Turkish provinces late July, has been continuing rapidly, with workers cutting some 40 percent of the trees in the region.

The ancient city of Iasos, a port city founded by the Argosians in the western province of Muğla's Milas district, impresses visitors as it resembles an open-air museum with its great walls, aqueducts, agora, theater, Roman-era tombstones and fishermen's market.
Archaeological excavations continue in the ancient city, which is located in the Kıyıkışlacık neighborhood.
