Dome installed for restored historic church after century

In a significant restoration milestone, the dome of the 1,600-year-old Saint George Church in Diyarbakır has been replaced following severe damage from the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes that struck eastern Türkiye on Feb. 6, 2023.

The new dome, installed using a crane, marks a significant step in the restoration of the ancient structure.

Fatalities, injuries amid local election disputes

Disputes preceding and during local elections have turned deadly as at least three individuals lost their lives and numerous others sustained injuries on March 31.

In the southeastern city of Siirt, one person was killed and four others were wounded in a clash involving firearms and stones between two groups amid voting activities.

Hundreds of World War I era hand grenades found in Turkey

A total of 782 hand grenades dating back to the World War I era were found during archaeological excavations at the historical site in southeastern Turkey.

They were found in Amida Mound, or Amida Höyük - known as the heart of Diyarbakır province - which is located in the historical Sur district.

Ancient Roman sewer system discovered in SE Turkey

A 1,800-year-old sewer system was discovered during archaeological excavations in Amida Mound, described as
"heart of the old city", in the historical Sur district in southeastern Turkey.

Excavations in the Amida Mound, which hosted many civilizations, including Urartians, Persians, Romans, Umayyads, Abbasids, Seljuks, Artuqids and Ottomans, were concluded this year.
