Ferries to Turkey's western islands canceled due to bad weather on election day
Morning ferries to Turkey's western islands of Gökçeada and Bozcaada off the coast of Çanakkale have been canceled on the day of the Nov. 1 snap elections due to bad weather.
A strong northeastern storm on the northern coasts of the Aegean Sea have caused the suspension of ferry services from Çanakkale to its Gökçeada (Imbros) and Bozcaada (Tenedos) districts since Oct. 31.
British archaeologist´s 19th century engraving found on Turkey's Mount Ida
A local tourist has discovered names engraved on walls in the cave of Shepherd Paris on Mount Ida in the northwestern province of Çanakkale, thought to belong to 19th century British archaeologist Frank Calvert.
Calvert is known as the first archaeologist to carry out excavation works at the ancient site of Troy, between 1863 and 1865.
Greek minority school in Gökçeada opens after 40-year closure
The Greek high school on Turkey?s northwestern island of Gökçeada, which could not open in 2014 as its building was deemed physically unprepared by the Education Ministry, is set to open this year after a 40-year closure.
Aristotle statue vandalized at ancient site
The famous Aristotle statue welcoming visitors at the entrance of the ancient Assos site has been removed and sent to ?zmir for repair after it was vandalized by unknown individuals.

Australia donates Gallipoli artifacts to Çanakkale
Australia has presented three artifacts from the 1915 Battle of Gallipoli to a Turkish military museum as a ?gesture of friendship.?
The Australian War Memorial donated a unit banner, a folding periscope and a hand grenade to the Çanakkale Naval Museum in northwestern Turkey.
