Dignitaries to flock to Gallipoli anniversary

Turkey will host leaders from all corners of the world when it holds commemorations for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli April 24-25.

The heads of state for 20 nations will be in attendance, while two parliament speakers, three vice presidents, five prime ministers and around 20 ministers will also attend the ceremonies.

Prayers in Çanakkale, whispers in Edirnekap?

In the historic Edirnekap? Military Cemetery in Istanbul, young soldiers lay side-by-side, resting in a sea of flowers and flags. Their mothers and fathers silently pray and shed tears; high school students greet them by giving flowers and hugging them. Most of the fallen soldiers were born after 1980. Their handsome pictures briefly smile from their tombstones.

Turkish PM says brotherhood key legacy of Gallipoli on 100th anniversary

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu has emphasized the significance of national unity and brotherhood on Anatolian soil as the key to the Ottomans' Gallipoli victory of 1915.

"This blessed war recalls the importance of national unity and solidarity to the minds of our nation," he said March 18 in the northwestern province of Çanakkale.     

Çanakkale 'hero ship' Nusret to honor martyrs on centennial anniversary

The TCG Nusret, a replica of the legendary mine-laying ship ?Nusret,? regarded as the ?hero? ship of the Turkish defense of the Dardanelles during World War One, will follow a century-old route and lay mines on March 8, as part of a series of events marking the centennial anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli in Çanakkale.
