The tourism season has officially commenced at the majestic Mount Nemrut, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled within southeastern province Adıyaman's Kahta district, hosting its first visitors.

The tiny cracks on the large stone statues at Mount Nemrut in the southeastern province of Adıyaman were filled with "nano lime" with syringes last year for their protection and officials announced that it worked.

A quartet of sites in southeastern Turkey are drawing more and more attention from tourists with their countless millennia of rich history.

The famed ancient site of Göbeklitepe in Şanlıurfa province is one the most popular destinations for both domestic and foreign tourists.

Mount Nemrut, one of the world's most important historical and cultural heritage sites, was visited by nearly 30,000 visitors last month after authorities decided easing most COVID-19-related restrictions.

Towering 2,134 meters over Turkey's southeastern province of Adıyaman, Mount Nemrut welcomed nearly 1,000 visitors every day in June, Adıyaman Museum Director Mehmet Alkan said.

Mount Nemrut, one of the world's most important historical and cultural heritage sites, was visited by nearly half a million people over the last five years, surpassing the population of many of Turkey's provinces.
