Gynos to Erdoğan: ‘If you don’t want abortions, you need birth control’

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed his opposition both to birth control, which he declared last week as “treason,” and abortions, an act that he has famously branded a “massacre,” in a similar vein to the killings of 34 villagers in Roboski three years ago.

Patients have no right to demand C-sections, says Turkish Health Minister

Highlighting once again the above-average number of Caesarean sections performed in the country, Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Müezzionoğlu has warned patient that they do not have the right to demand such operations.

"Demanding a natural birth is a natural right of the patient and this is the way it should be," Müezzinoğlu told a group of reporters in Parliament on Dec. 19.

Macedonia Court Throws out Abortion Challenge

Macedonia's Constitutional Court has rejected a challenge to the changed law on terminations, adopted in September 2013, saying the changes do not prohibit abortion but only regulate the procedures.
 
Several NGOs had submitted complaints to the Constitutional Court, arguing that the new requirements put undue physical, administrative and time-related pressure on pregnant women.

More abortions than births in Serbia

BELGRADE - Serbs are the oldest nation in Europe in terms of the average age of the population, and the statistical data indicate that women give birth to 1.4 children on average, while the average number of abortions is 2.8, the participants of a meeting entitled Protection of Motherhood in Serbia said on Wednesday.

Montenegro Urged to Stop Gender-Selective Abortions

The Council of Europe's human rights commissioner Nils Muiznieks called on the Montenegrin authorities on Sunday to educate health professionals and adopt strict guidelines in order to prevent selective abortions.

According to the UN, some 100 girls are born for every 110 boys in Montenegro, while the usual ratio is 100 to 102-104.
